Works for School

Though my Music Production driven education at Occidental College, I have produced various pieces for different class assignments and projects.

Courses

  • In class MUSC 348: Mixing & Mastering, we learn the fundamentals for mixing and mastering. We also learn the different ways to treat a space for correct acoustics, and how these acoustic effect the outcome of a mix.

  • In MUSC 249: Recording Techniques, we learn the basics for capturing a great recording and how a good recording can effect the overall sound of a record. We worked with various types and builds of microphones, different instruments, and different recording configurations to produce the best recording possible.

  • In MUSC 258: Intro to Film Scoring, we learn the fundamentals of scoring different types of movies. The first half of the course was dedicated to creating our own log lines in a given genre, then scoring what we think the scene would sound like within a minute duration. In the second half, we were given actual movie scenes to score. We scored scenes from the movies “The Martian” and “I Am Legend.”

  • In MUSC 148: Intro to DAW, we as a class learned the various components available to us in digital audio workstations, specifically Logic Pro X for this class. We learned different work flows, where plugins and VST’s are stored, and different audio and midi editing techniques within Logic.

  • In MUSC 113: Learning to Compose, we learned different musical composition techniques and software, such as MuseScore and Sibelius. We learned the different note ranges of orchestral instruments, how to score abnormal instruments such as the Harp, and different ways of scoring such as the use visual scores and Musique Concrète.

Intro to Music Business

Taken for class project “Ess3nce”

Intro to Music Business

In MUSC 245: Intro to Music Business, we learned the various aspects of the business side of the music industry, such as management, publishing, royalties, A&R, etc. The first half of the course was dedicated to learning these fundamentals. The second half was dedicated to a group project. In groups of four we were assigned to build a music duo from the ground up and were tasked with marketing the project, planning out a tour schedule and expenses, and creating press release documents.

ESS3NCE

Ess3nce is the title of the group project I was a part of in this class. Ess3nce is marketed as a musical trio, where the third member is a mannequin bust. The group is centered around various sub-genres of Electronic music, such as DnB and Deep House. Production was done by both myself and my partner, Forrest Love. I provided vocals for two of the tracks. The marketing team consisted of two others, Timothy Shortell and Emmanuel Wu. The three song EP created for the project “3P” was released on Bandcamp.
